About The Art of the Informational Interview
This newsletter is all about, you guessed it, informational interviewing.
But more than that, it’s about making the intimidating-seeming power structures of the professional world more navigable for people who may not have family members or friends who can guide them.
It’s about not accepting a bad deal, and being ambitious about what you can get—financially, emotionally, socially and spiritually— from your professional life. It’s about meaning and passion and fulfilling your potential.
It’s about using the gifts you were given to do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, for all the people you can, for as long as you can. It’s about hope even in the face of the late-stage capitalist grind.
It’s about how you get from where you are now to where you want to go.
What you can expect
Every Thursday morning you’ll receive a missive from me about informational interviewing, vocational self-discovery and professional thriving.
In the future I hope to add AMAs, community threads, interviews and profiles. But for now, it’s just little old me, and a fountain of thoughts about informational interviews.
About me
My work means a lot to me. Through my work I get to use my brain in fun ways and create things that matter to me. I believe that the world would be a better place if more people were able to exercise their skills in a way that was meaningful to them. And I truly believe that the most powerful learning and advancement tool available is the informational interview.
This newsletter is a compilation of one decade of learning. It’s everything I tell my friends, younger siblings, cousins and colleagues when I’m trying to help them get from point A to point B in their professional life.
If you want to learn more about the past jobs I’ve had, here’s my resume. You can also find my on LinkedIn.
I hope that the information here helps you fulfill your potential and make an impact in whatever way is most meaningful to you.
