Resumes are a waste of time. Here's how to make yours good.

Plus my favorite resume template!

Resumes are a waste of time. Here’s how to make yours good.

The amount of content on the internet devoted to creating and improving a resume is completely disproportionate to the utility of a resume. Your resume doesn’t matter because you are mostly going to get jobs by emailing people and doing informational interviews.

If people are interested in your background they can look at your LinkedIn profile. Obviously you do have to have a resume, but you should assume no one is ever going to look at it. All the time you spend thinking about and tweaking your resume would be better spent reaching out to people and conducting informational interviews because, say it with me, informational interviews are how we get jobs!

Whew, okay, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest we can talk about how to make a good resume. There is one good reason to work on a resume: a nice resume can give a job seeker confidence to reach out to people. So, yes, today we are gonna work on making a good resume.

And yes, at the bottom of this post I will give you the only resume template you’ll ever need.

Once you’ve created a basically good resume you can stop worrying about your resume and focus on INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEWING.
